Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, harnesses your body’s natural rejuvenation process to reverse signs of aging and give you smoother, firmer, more toned skin. It can also be effective at treating wrinkles, scars, enlarged pores, and sun spots. This minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure uses controlled pinpricks to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. The skin responds by producing new, collagen-rich tissue.
Microneedling is most effective at correcting:
- Acne scars
- Age spots and sun spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduced skin elasticity
- Uneven skin tone
What is microneedling with PRP/PRF?
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) are concentrates made from the patient’s own blood to stimulate the body’s healing processes. The concentrate is made up of plasma, platelets, white blood cells, and mesenchymal stem cells.
At the beginning of a microneedling procedure with PRP or PRF, we’ll take a small blood sample. The blood is spun to separate out the red blood cells and harvest growth factors. The plasma, platelets, white blood cells, and mesenchymal stem cells are then used during the microneedling process.
What to expect after microneedling
Before the procedure, we’ll schedule a consultation to ensure you have the best possible outcome. For optimal results, we may recommend several sessions. The procedure itself typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete. When you receive treatment here at Bend Plastic Surgery, we use a medical-grade microneedling device to apply the microneedles to the treatment area.
Because microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure, recovery time is minimal. You may notice some mild redness and irritation in the first few days after the procedure. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so don’t skip the sunscreen!
